Life can be messy and overwhelming at times. Juggling the demands of a family, home, and work is never easy, but there are times in particular where it all can just become totally overwhelming. If you are feeling overwhelmed right now here are 4 suggestions to help you figure out what to do. Accept it […]
Are you really there? Being present for your kids is more than just be there physically. It’s about being there emotionally too. It’s about actually listening to their stories (no matter how long they get) and actually hearing what they have to say. It isn’t always easy with the busyness of the days, but it is […]
This is post is for us. Not for the parents who we are. Just for us as people, as individuals, as souls separate from who we are as parents, spouses, friends, and children. Because if we want our children to be excited about their lives, we must first be excited about ours. We have to […]
You know I am a big fan of clarity. It’s one of the things every family needs in order to thrive. Clarity is about knowing who you are as a family, an individual, and as a parent. It’s about knowing what you stand for and what’s important. So when I read Brene Brown’s book, Daring […]
Parenting is hard and it’s really hard when parents don’t agree. Every parent brings to their relationship and parenting journey different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences all of which shape us in different ways. This is a guest post from my daughter Jennifer. Jennifer is a high school junior, participates in way too many clubs to list, and blogs at The Purple Branch. Teenagers are complex beings. Sometimes I worry about how you interpret my message. Sometimes I worry you read this newsletter and think you need to be this completely pulled together parent whose house is always clean, who never forgets anything, and whose kids are always well behaved and polite. I don’t write things like In a Perfect […]
I first learned about this TED talk from Michael Hyatt on one of his recent podcasts and I was blown away by how important the message is for parents. I shared it with my two teenage daughters as well. The TED talk is 20 minutes long, so grab a cup of tea or coffee and sit down to enjoy. I am also currently listening to her 6 hour workshop called The Power of Vulnerability: Teachings of Authenticity, Connection, and Courage and so far, it has been great.
After you watch it, I would love to hear what you think. You can share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
