How to Play Marbles
To play the marble game the
traditional way, start by drawing a circle on the sidewalk or
driveway with chalk. If playing indoors, use a large piece of
string or yarn to form your circle. Next, each player chooses
one large shooter marble and 10 small marbles. Place the 20
small marbles in the center of the ring in the shape of an X.
How to Win - Each
player takes a turn shooting from outside the circle. Hold the
shooter with your pointer finger and shoot it toward the center
of the circle with your thumb.
If you knock an opponent's
marble outside the circle and your shooter stays in the circle,
collect the marble and keep shooting. If you don't knock a
marble out of the circle, or your shooter goes out of the
circle, your turn is over. If you knock a marble out of the
circle along with your shooter, put the marble back in the
circle. The first player to collect seven of their opponent’s
marbles wins!
To add an extra twist to your
marble game, follow these rules.
Use the goals to score points
for humming, spelling, and acting challenges in a game we call
Marble Rings. If you shoot your marble into an activity ring,
complete the activity printed on the ring and get one point --
and the player who helped you gets a point, too!
Other twists -- like making your
own marble obstacle course from objects around your house --
also included!
