What's Going On?
The dish detergent contains hydrophobic molecules, or
more simply molecules that hate water. When the
detergent comes in contact with the water in the milk, it
quickly spreads out over the milk surface carrying the food
coloring with it, so that the "water hating" part of the
molecules can reach the air.
