Description

Caramelized Feta with Chili Honey delivers a quick Mediterranean-style starter that sparks serious snack excitement. Salty cheese meets sweet-spicy drizzle for an unforgettable flavor explosion perfect when entertaining friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 block feta cheese
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon chili flakes

Garnish and Serving:

  • Fresh thyme or rosemary
  • Cracked black pepper
  • Warm pita, flatbread, or crusty bread

Instructions

  1. Toast 2 tablespoons walnuts in a dry pan at medium heat for 3-4 minutes until they release a nutty aroma. Transfer to a small plate.
  2. Combine 4 tablespoons honey, ½ teaspoon chili flakes, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice in a small saucepan. Warm over low heat until gently simmering.
  3. Remove feta block from packaging and thoroughly pat dry with paper towels to ensure crisp browning.
  4. Pour 1 tablespoon olive oil into a nonstick skillet and heat at medium temperature for 1 minute.
  5. Carefully place 1 block of feta into the hot skillet. Sear for 2-3 minutes until a golden crust forms on the bottom.
  6. Flip feta using a thin spatula and brown the opposite side for another 2-3 minutes until evenly golden.
  7. Drizzle the warm chili honey directly over the feta while it remains in the skillet. Watch the honey gently caramelize around the cheese.
  8. Sprinkle toasted walnuts, fresh thyme leaves, and cracked black pepper across the top of the feta.
  9. Transfer the skillet directly to the table and serve immediately with warm pita or crusty bread for dipping.

Notes

  • Ensure feta is cold and well-drained before searing to get the perfect golden crust without breaking apart.
  • Use a nonstick or well-seasoned cast-iron skillet to prevent the cheese from sticking and tearing during cooking.
  • Toast walnuts slowly and watch carefully, as they can burn quickly and turn bitter if left unattended.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute feta with firm tofu and adjust cooking time to achieve a similar golden exterior.
