Ingredients
Scale
Proteins and Main Ingredients:
- 2 to 2.5 lbs ribeye steak
- 3 bell peppers
- 2 small onions
- 3 garlic cloves
Cooking Liquids and Binding Agents:
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 5 tablespoons tomato paste
- 0.5 cup beef broth or stock
- 2–3 tablespoons avocado oil
Seasonings:
- Salt
- Black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 0.5 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 0.25 teaspoon white pepper
Serving Additions:
- Cooked white rice
- Chopped green onion or parsley
Instructions
- Salt and pepper your steak slices, then dust with 2 tbsp flour until each piece has a light, even coating.
- Heat 2–3 tbsp avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat at 375°F. Sear steak slices for exactly 2 minutes per batch until golden brown edges form.
- Transfer seared steak to a plate. In the same skillet, add another splash of oil and cook 2 small sliced onions for 10 minutes until they turn soft and golden.
- Sprinkle ½ tsp Italian seasoning, ½ tsp sweet paprika, ¼ tsp smoked paprika, and ¼ tsp white pepper into the onions. Stir thoroughly to distribute spices evenly.
- Add 3 cups of thinly sliced bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté for precisely 2–3 minutes so they remain slightly crisp.
- Mince 3 garlic cloves and quickly sauté for 30 seconds until their aroma fills your kitchen.
- Stir 5 tbsp tomato paste into the vegetable mixture and cook for 30 seconds to deepen the flavors.
- Pour ½ cup beef broth into the skillet and whisk until the sauce becomes smooth and well-combined.
- Return the seared steak slices to the skillet. Toss gently to coat each piece in the sauce for 1 minute.
- Serve the pepper steak immediately over warm white rice. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh parsley.
Notes
- Slice steak against the grain for maximum tenderness and easier chewing.
- Patting the steak dry before seasoning helps create a perfect golden-brown sear without steaming the meat.
- Use a cast-iron skillet if possible, as it provides the best heat distribution and develops a rich, caramelized flavor on the meat and vegetables.
- For a gluten-free version, replace wheat flour with cornstarch or almond flour when coating the steak, which will still help create a nice crispy exterior.
