Description

Sesame Chicken brings Chinese takeout right to your kitchen with crispy, tender bites that beat any delivery. Perfecting this classic requires just a few simple ingredients and about 30 minutes of cooking time.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 lb chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 green onions

Seasoning/Garnish:

  • None

Instructions

  1. Grab a mixing bowl and toss in your diced chicken breasts, then pour 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch over the meat. Whisk everything together until the chicken is evenly coated.
  2. Place a large skillet on the stove and heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium-high heat (375°F). Make sure your pan is hot before adding ingredients.
  3. Drop in 2 minced garlic cloves and quickly sauté for exactly 30 seconds, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  4. Carefully transfer the entire seasoned chicken mixture into the skillet. Spread the pieces evenly across the pan’s surface.
  5. Cook the chicken for 6-8 minutes, flipping occasionally, until each piece turns golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and immediately sprinkle 2 tablespoons sesame seeds and 2 sliced green onions over the chicken.
  7. Transfer the sesame chicken to a serving plate and enjoy while it’s piping hot.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate deeply and tenderize the meat.
  • Use a non-stick pan or well-seasoned cast iron skillet to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap regular soy sauce with tamari and use a gluten-free cornstarch alternative.
  • Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan for a few minutes before sprinkling to enhance their nutty flavor and aroma.
