Scale
Primary Proteins:
- 1 lb ground pork
Supporting Vegetables:
- 16 oz coleslaw mix
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2-inch fresh ginger
Seasonings and Sauces:
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili paste
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Kosher salt
Garnishes:
- Cooked rice
- Thinly sliced green onions
- Wonton strips
Instructions
- Warm a large skillet over medium-high heat. Pour 1 tbsp olive oil across the surface.
- Crumble 1 lb ground pork into the hot pan. Add 2-inch minced ginger and 4 minced garlic cloves. Break meat into small pieces while cooking.
- Dust 1 tsp cornstarch and ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder over cooked pork. Thoroughly mix to distribute seasonings.
- Stream ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tsp sesame oil, and 2 tbsp chili paste into the skillet. Stir sauce through meat for 2 minutes.
- Tumble 16 oz coleslaw mix into the skillet. Toss ingredients to combine completely.
- Cover pan and steam vegetables for 2-3 minutes until cabbage turns bright green and slightly softens.
- Sample the mixture. Sprinkle kosher salt if your palate desires more seasoning.
- Transfer stir-fry over prepared rice. Scatter thinly sliced green onions and crispy wonton strips across the top.
Notes
- Check your ground pork for fat content, as leaner meat can make the dish less flavorful and potentially dry.
- Drain excess liquid carefully to keep the meat’s texture crisp and prevent a watery stir fry.
- Customize the heat level by adjusting the amount of chili paste or using sriracha for more kick.
- For a gluten-free version, swap regular soy sauce with tamari and use gluten-free wonton strips.
