Ingredients

Scale

Main Proteins and Starches:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 28-ounce bag frozen shoestring fries

Cheese and Soup Ingredients:

  • 10.5-ounce can cheddar cheese soup
  • 10.5-ounce can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Seasonings and Condiments:

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon dried onion pieces
  • ½ yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon pickle brine
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • Salt, as needed
  • Pepper, as needed
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer and cook 28 ounces of frozen shoestring fries according to package instructions until golden and crispy.
  2. Set your oven to precisely 350°F for later baking.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook 2 pounds of ground beef with ½ finely chopped yellow onion until completely browned.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon minced garlic to the beef and sauté for 30 seconds, then season with 1 teaspoon each of onion and garlic powder, plus salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Drain excess grease from the beef mixture to keep your dish from becoming too oily.
  6. Pour the 10.5-ounce cans of cheddar cheese and cream of mushroom soups into the beef, stirring until thoroughly combined.
  7. Transfer the beef and soup mixture into a 7×11 inch baking dish, creating an even layer.
  8. Arrange the cooked fries across the top of the beef mixture in a uniform layer.
  9. Sprinkle ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the fries.
  10. Bake in the 350°F oven for 12-15 minutes until cheese melts completely.
  11. While baking, whisk ½ cup mayo, ¼ cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon pickle brine, ½ teaspoon dried onion pieces, and black pepper in a small bowl.
  12. Drizzle the prepared sauce over the casserole just before serving.

Notes

  • French fries can get soggy, so cook them extra crispy in the air fryer for the best texture in this casserole.
  • Ground beef works best when cooked at medium-high heat to develop rich, caramelized flavor without burning.
  • Choose full-fat cheese for maximum meltiness and a more luxurious final dish.
  • For a lighter version, substitute lean ground turkey and low-fat cheese to reduce calories without losing taste.
