Description

Ginger Soy Glazed Cod delivers a quick seafood solution that’ll make your dinner shine with minimal effort. Delicate fish meets a zesty marinade, bringing restaurant-quality flavor straight to your kitchen table.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Protein:

  • 4 (6-ounce) cod fillets

Seasoning and Glaze Ingredients:

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Cooking and Garnish Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Whisk ¼ cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon grated ginger, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, and ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, bringing it to a gentle simmer for 3-5 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  3. Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water in a separate small bowl until completely smooth.
  4. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the simmering sauce, whisking constantly until the glaze thickens for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Remove the glaze from heat and keep warm on very low heat.
  6. Use paper towels to thoroughly dry 4 cod fillets.
  7. Season both sides of the fillets with ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper.
  8. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Place cod fillets in the hot skillet, ensuring they do not touch each other.
  10. Cook the fillets for 4-5 minutes on the first side until golden brown.
  11. Flip the fillets and cook an additional 4-5 minutes on the second side.
  12. Brush each fillet generously with the prepared ginger soy glaze during the last minute of cooking.
  13. Transfer the glazed cod to serving plates, sprinkling with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  14. Garnish with fresh lime wedges and serve immediately with your favorite side dish.

Notes

  • Always pat cod fillets completely dry before cooking to ensure a crisp, golden exterior and prevent steaming.
  • Use a high-quality soy sauce for the most vibrant and rich glaze flavor, as cheaper brands can taste flat or too salty.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap regular soy sauce with tamari and ensure your cornstarch is certified gluten-free.
  • When pan-searing, resist the urge to move the fish around and let it develop a beautiful golden crust by cooking undisturbed.
