Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 1 medium-sized cabbage
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
Supporting Ingredients:
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Seasoning and Cooking Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Trim the outer leaves from your cabbage and rinse thoroughly. Slice the cabbage into thin, uniform strips about ¼-inch wide.
- Chop 6 bacon slices into small pieces. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat at 375°F for 4-5 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Using the same skillet with remaining bacon grease, sauté 1 diced onion and 3 minced garlic cloves over medium heat at 350°F for 2-3 minutes until onions become translucent.
- Add 1 pound sliced smoked sausage to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes at 375°F, stirring occasionally until sausage edges turn deep golden brown.
- Incorporate 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes at 375°F until shrimp turn completely pink and opaque.
- Fold the sliced cabbage into the skillet. Stir and cook for 5-6 minutes at 350°F until cabbage becomes slightly wilted but retains a tender-crisp texture.
- Sprinkle salt and black pepper to taste. Toss all ingredients together to ensure even seasoning.
- Garnish with reserved crispy bacon pieces. Serve immediately while hot and fragrant.
Notes
- Slice cabbage as thin and uniform as possible for even cooking and better texture.
- Drain excess bacon grease if desired, but keeping some adds rich flavor to the entire dish.
- Use andouille or smoked sausage for extra depth and spice in the final result.
- For a lighter version, replace bacon with turkey bacon and use less oil during cooking.
