Description

Fried Cabbage with Shrimp Sausage Bacon brings together a hearty Southern classic that’ll make your taste buds dance with pure comfort. Crispy bacon, tender shrimp, and spicy sausage create a mouthwatering skillet dish perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized cabbage
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Seasoning and Cooking Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Trim the outer leaves from your cabbage and rinse thoroughly. Slice the cabbage into thin, uniform strips about ¼-inch wide.
  2. Chop 6 bacon slices into small pieces. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat at 375°F for 4-5 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Using the same skillet with remaining bacon grease, sauté 1 diced onion and 3 minced garlic cloves over medium heat at 350°F for 2-3 minutes until onions become translucent.
  4. Add 1 pound sliced smoked sausage to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes at 375°F, stirring occasionally until sausage edges turn deep golden brown.
  5. Incorporate 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes at 375°F until shrimp turn completely pink and opaque.
  6. Fold the sliced cabbage into the skillet. Stir and cook for 5-6 minutes at 350°F until cabbage becomes slightly wilted but retains a tender-crisp texture.
  7. Sprinkle salt and black pepper to taste. Toss all ingredients together to ensure even seasoning.
  8. Garnish with reserved crispy bacon pieces. Serve immediately while hot and fragrant.

Notes

  • Slice cabbage as thin and uniform as possible for even cooking and better texture.
  • Drain excess bacon grease if desired, but keeping some adds rich flavor to the entire dish.
  • Use andouille or smoked sausage for extra depth and spice in the final result.
  • For a lighter version, replace bacon with turkey bacon and use less oil during cooking.
