Ingredients
Scale
Main Protein:
- 1 lb ground beef
Supporting Starches:
- 2 cups potatoes, diced
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
Seasonings and Liquids:
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ cup onion, chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Mash 1 lb ground beef with ½ cup breadcrumbs, 1 egg, ¼ cup chopped onion, 1 tsp garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl until ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Shape the meat mixture into four compact oval-shaped patties about ½ inch thick.
- Warm 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes until the oil shimmers slightly.
- Carefully place patties into the hot skillet and cook for 6 minutes, developing a deep golden-brown crust on the first side.
- Flip patties and continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Transfer browned patties to a clean plate, keeping them warm.
- Add 2 cups diced potatoes to the same skillet, spreading them in a single layer over the remaining meat drippings.
- Cook potatoes for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden and can be easily pierced with a fork.
- Pour 1 cup beef broth and 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce over the potatoes, scraping any browned bits from the pan’s bottom.
- Nestle the cooked patties back into the skillet, allowing them to simmer in the sauce for 4-5 minutes.
- Serve the patties and potatoes immediately, spooning extra sauce over the top.
Notes
- Always use fresh ground beef with a bit of fat content to keep the patties juicy and flavorful.
- Avoid overworking the meat mixture when forming patties, which can make them tough and dense.
- For gluten-free adaptation, replace breadcrumbs with crushed gluten-free crackers or almond flour.
- Cut potatoes into uniform sizes to ensure even cooking and prevent some pieces from becoming mushy while others remain undercooked.
