Description

Chicken cheesesteak skillet brings sandwich flavor to one quick pan with tender chicken, peppers, onions, and melted cheese. It’s fast, hearty, and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

Primary Proteins:

  • 1 lb chicken breast, sliced

Vegetables:

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced

Seasonings and Cheese:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat (375°F) for 2 minutes until the surface shimmers.
  2. Add 1 lb sliced chicken breast to the hot skillet and spread pieces evenly. Sear for 4-5 minutes, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides.
  3. Toss in 1 sliced green bell pepper, 1 sliced onion, and 2 cups sliced mushrooms. Stir to combine with the chicken.
  4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon black pepper across the skillet. Mix thoroughly to distribute seasonings.
  5. Continue cooking the mixture for 6-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until your vegetables become soft and slightly caramelized.
  6. Lay 4 slices of provolone cheese across the top of the skillet. Cover with a lid and remove from heat, letting the residual warmth melt the cheese for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Check that chicken is fully cooked to 165°F internal temperature before serving directly from the skillet.

Notes

  • Slice chicken against the grain for more tender, easier-to-eat pieces that will stay juicy during cooking.
  • Choose fresh, crisp bell peppers for the best flavor and texture in this quick skillet meal.
  • For a lower-carb version, serve the cheesesteak mixture over cauliflower rice or mixed greens instead of bread.
  • Swap provolone with Swiss or white cheddar cheese if you prefer a different melting cheese with slightly varied flavor profile.
